Over the past few months a few supporters of the Johari Foundation have hosted a Johari Sales Party in their home. This has proved extremely successful in raising awareness and sales of the the Johari clothing and accessories brand and also promoting the work of Johari Foundation to family and friends. Valerie Darroch was the first Friend of the Foundation to host a party and as a result a few of her friends have also hosted them.
What a great way to socialise with family and friends and help others to a better future!
Joanna Collins hosted a fundraising party in aid of Johari Foundation's Miale Programmes. She visited some of the programmes during a visit to Nairobi and to raise awareness and support for the programmes invited family and friends to a party charging £10 per ticket. She held a raffle and silent auction too. The event raised a fantastic £1,500. This funding will support children with their educational, social and basic needs.
Barry Neilson raised £452 for Johari Foundation from sponsorship after he participated in the BUPA Great North Run in September. Barry only started training a couple of months before the race, but pulled out the stops to get fit and also contact family, friends and colleagues to raise awareness and funds for the Foundation. Barry is delighted with the amount that he raised through this event and he is planning to run a marathon in 2011 to raise more money for the Foundation. Good luck Barry!
Mike Allan of Sumerian recently organised a golf event at Archerfield Links in East Lothian. He asked all those attending to support Johari Foundation by donating £20 each and he managed to raise £360. The Johari team are delighted with this amount and are glad that all involved in the day enjoyed themselves whilst helping to raise funds for the children on the Miale programmes in Kenya.
To get everyone at Sumerian in the mood for the World Cup, Nick Maher organised an office sweepstake. 32 people took part, each paying £5 for the privelidge. Half of the money was put in to the prize pot with the other half being donated to help the children on the Miale Programmes. Nick did a great job in organising this.
Around 25 students sold a range of necklaces, dresses and jewellery, from two stalls in the Saltire Centre, in the run up to Christmas, in aid of the Johari Foundation.
As part of 12-week retailing assignment, the GCU students sold some of the Johari Designs clothing and jewellery along with items from other retailers. They raised a fantastic £400 for the Foundation. For more information on this event please click here
In December 2009 Martin Currie hosted a sales day for the Johari Foundation. The Johari stall was located in the foyer of Saltire Court, Castle Terrace and Martin Currie employees took it in turns to staff the stall. Other companies located in Saltire Court were then able to come along and view the Johari jewellery on display and provide support. It was a great event and gave the staff located in the building the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Johari also attended similar events at Royal Bank of Scotland in Gogarburn and at HBOS, Lothian Road.
Major Donors are a life-line for the Foundation which we rely on for the personal time, financial support and advice they so willingly contribute.
Fundraisers play a vital role in supporting and sustaining our programmes. We are always looking for support and new creative fundraising ideas. Visit our Spotlight for highlights of previous fundraising events and view our Fundraising and Events page for infomation on what's going on.
Volunteers experience, skills, drive and encouragement are inspirational to the children and a necessity for the success of our activities and events. Opportunities exist to work with the children and there are long and short-term opportunities to help with fundraising activities in Kenya and the UK.
Friends of the Foundation provide support ranging from donations in-kind of basic food, to donations of professional time and skills. Working closely with the children Regina Wambui and Maureen Buyu know what items the children and their families are most in need of and they co-ordinate the distribution of these items.
